No electrical connection is required, so the valve operates solely on hydraulic energy and reduces wiring complexity. Petroleum oils are the approved fluid medium, and operation calls for cleanliness at or better than code 19/17/14 to avoid spool sticking. The design remains functional from −20 °C (−4 °F) up to 70 °C (158 °F), covering common mobile and industrial temperature ranges.
