The DG5S-8-4C-VM-FW-H5-30 valve is produced by Vickers as part of the DG5 Two-Stage Directional Valves series and is intended to switch hydraulic flow paths in automated machinery. It is built as a two-stage solenoid-piloted 4-way unit, allowing electrical control of high-pressure oil through a small pilot section. A type 4 spool arranged in tandem P-to-T with closed crossover routes pump flow to tank at center while blocking port mixing during shifts. The spring-centered mechanism returns the spool to neutral when power is removed, providing self-centering safety. Flying lead coils simplify wiring in confined panels, and each coil operates on 24 VDC to suit common control supplies. Position-identified energization marked “V” lets the user address each solenoid individually, while a 1/2 NPT threaded housing protects the conductors. Installation uses the ISO 4401-08 (NFPA D08) pattern and secures with six .500-13 UNC bolts for stable mounting.
The valve tolerates line pressures up to 210 bar (3000 psi), enabling use in medium-pressure circuits without derating. Its pilot stage accepts the same 210 bar yet shifts reliably with as little as 5 bar, offering flexibility when control pressure is limited. The pilot drain withstands 100 bar back-pressure, which is useful where return restrictions exist. Optimum performance is reached at 170 L/min (45 US gpm) so pressure drop remains controlled during continuous flow. Manifold bolts may be tightened to 79 N·m (700 lbf·in) to achieve proper seal compression without thread damage. Each A and B service port includes a .4375-20 UNF-2B test connection, allowing quick pressure checks during commissioning or maintenance. These hydraulic limits enable the valve to manage load changes without excess leakage or sluggish response.
