The OCW S 1 B 30 cooler is produced by Vickers as part of the Vickers Hydraulic Accessories series for controlling oil temperature in automated hydraulic circuits. It is a water-type cooler, so heat is transferred from the oil to circulating water. Hydraulic fluid flows through the shell side of the unit, while clean soft water moves through the tubes to avoid scaling. The design maintains a 1:1 oil to water flow ratio to balance heat exchange rates on both sides. A fixed tube bundle secures the copper tubes in place and simplifies maintenance procedures. The shell is made of brass to resist corrosion from hydraulic oils. Internal multiple fins on the shell side increase surface area and improve thermal performance.
The cooler operates safely at oil temperatures up to 149 °C, supporting demanding duty cycles. Shell side pressure is limited to 14 bar, whereas tube side pressure must remain below 10 bar to protect the water passages. Four mounting slots are provided so the unit can be secured to machine frames or reservoirs. Six drain plugs permit complete draining during service or seasonal shutdowns. Each drain plug uses a 0.125 NPTF thread for consistent sealing with standard fittings. The oil inlet and outlet are tapped 1.00-11.5 NPTF, accommodating common hydraulic piping. Water connections use 0.50-14 NPTF threads to match typical process water lines.
