The SM4-40(38)144-DCLTB-10-S7 servo valve is produced by Vickers as part of the Servo Valves series for precise hydraulic automation. It requires a minimum supply pressure of 14 bar (200 psi) to maintain stable spool positioning, while the maximum supply pressure reaches 210 bar (3000 psi) for use in medium-pressure systems. The supply port proof pressure is 150 % of the maximum supply pressure so the body can tolerate temporary surges during commissioning. With the return port open the assembly endures a burst pressure equal to 250 % of the maximum supply pressure, and return passages are rated for a proof pressure equal to the maximum supply pressure to avoid deformation under back pressure. At 70 bar the pilot stage draws a maximum of 0.9 l/min (0.24 US gpm), which keeps the pump requirement modest, and a 35-micron absolute pilot filter is specified to protect the pilot nozzles from contamination. Electrical connection is made through an MS-3106-14S-2S four-pin plug that fits standard servo drive wiring.


For installation, the mounting surface finish must be held to 63 microinch to prevent gasket weep, and surface flatness must not exceed 0.05 mm (0.002 in) to keep internal clearances accurate. A port circle diameter of 44.46 mm (1.75 in) aligns with common manifold layouts. The valve limits total null leakage to 3.48 l/min (0.92 US gpm) so bypass flow remains low during standby. It begins to respond at a threshold of 0.5 % of rated current, and static hysteresis around null is restricted to 3 % of rated current for consistent closed-loop control. The assembly withstands shock levels up to 150 g, supporting use on mobile platforms, and it operates continuously at temperatures as high as 135 °C (275 °F) without derating.
