It uses pilot operated actuation so the main spool shifts through a low-flow pilot path, which lets the unit handle system loads with reduced actuation force. The internal design is two stage, allowing the pilot section to modulate the main stage for stable pressure control during rapid load changes. Pressure is adjusted through a screw with a locknut, enabling technicians to set the relief point and secure it against vibration. The valve is built in Size 03, which matches industry standard subplates and ensures interchangeability with other components of the same size class. A subplate or manifold mounting interface simplifies installation into compact hydraulic manifolds. The unit supports a maximum pressure of 140 bar (2000 psi) so it can protect medium-pressure circuits from overload conditions, while the rated maximum flow of 45 L/min (12.0 US gpm) defines the highest throughput it can relieve without excessive pressure rise. It is compatible with petroleum oils, which covers the majority of mobile and industrial hydraulic fluids used in general machinery.

A built-in check valve allows reverse flow when downstream pressure exceeds the setting, preventing line shock during load reversal. Nitrile (Buna-N) seals are used to resist swelling when exposed to standard mineral oils and to provide reliable sealing over the service life. The valve operates between −20 °C (−4 °F) and 70 °C (158 °F), so it can be fitted in equipment that sees cold start-ups and moderately hot running conditions. Fluid cleanliness must be kept to ISO 4406 code 19/17/14 or better to limit erosive wear on the precision pilot orifices. The design omits an electrical connection, meaning no solenoids or sensors are required and the unit functions purely hydraulically. There is no indicator light, so system status must be confirmed by pressure gauges rather than visual signals on the valve body. The absence of auxiliary wiring reduces envelope size and simplifies maintenance tasks. As a pressure control valve, the RCG03F230 relieves excess energy directly to tank, and the included features work together to maintain set pressure while minimizing leakage and installation complexity.
